Problems with desleeper

description

On Service Installation tab with all the boxes as default and the Precache Hosts box set to xxx where xxx is a Netbios computer name, if that computer is powered off, I get

"An error occurred while attempting to configure settings on system-id. Unable to install service files due to a networking failure."

However when powered on, I get

"An error occurred while attempting to configure settings on system-id. Unable to install service files due to insufficient networking privileges."

What is causing this problem? System is W7 Home Premium. This occurs even when I run it as Admin.

It's a little unclear if you understand the purpose of this tab.

Maybe this is unclear, but this tab is attempting to copy and install the service files to the destination machine. Thus it is absolutely necessary that the machine be on. In addition you will need administrator level access to the system and it will need to not have any security settings enabled that would prevent you from accessing the file system or registry remotely.

If what you're actually attempting to do is wake up a remote machine you'll use the Wake Up tab, just know that the nature of Wake On Lan requires the wake up "magic packet" to be sent from a system on the same physical network (there are some other possibilities, but they are complex and probably not the case for your network).

So this is the purpose of installing the service on a remote machine that is on the same physical network as the machine you're attempting to wake, but that "service" machine must definitely be on when you do the install and when you use it to relay the wake up request.

If you're having trouble with the remote service installation, instead do it locally, and leave the "Installl remotely to" blank.
